Top Farming Tips for Successful Rice Cultivation

Rice (Oryza sativa) is a staple crop for millions worldwide, thriving in hot, humid environments with waterlogged fields. Cultivating high-yield rice varieties requires careful attention to technical factors.

Here are some essential tips for achieving the best results:

  1. Climatic Conditions: Rice grows best in temperatures between 20°C to 40°C. Ensure your farm receives ample sunlight and stays humid. Fields at altitudes up to 3000m can also produce good yields.
  2. Land Preparation: Start by flooding the fields 1-2 days before plowing to prepare the soil. During puddling, maintain a water depth of 2.5 cm. Sow seeds 2-3 cm deep, spaced 20-25 cm apart.
  3. Soil & Irrigation: Use clay-rich soils that retain water. For irrigation, maintain water levels of 1500-2500 mm. Direct sowing methods use less water than transplanting, so irrigate every 7-8 days for optimal growth.
  4. Fertilizers: Apply a balanced mix of compost and chemical fertilizers like nitrogen (100-150 kg/ha) and phosphorus (50-60 kg/ha) for better yields.

By following these steps, you can expect an average yield of 2500 kg/ha, with profits up to Rs 52,850 per acre.
